PROTEUS

Inspired by the works of Luce Irigaray, Protean explores a body that is in continuous transition, moving away from our archaic self to a liquid self. The photographs, images of a finalized imaginal body, is a flux moment of the material, which is constantly failing and returning to its original amorphous form. It is only through the actions of the model that this body is shaped into existence before collapsing again.

Together these bodies challenge our current notion of a fixed identity and places an emphasis on becoming and growing, rather than being.

The material, fermented dough and colour pig- ments, is used to visualise a body that is continually undergoing construction and deconstruction. The final product, film and photo, capture the flux moments where the material seems to defy gravity, becoming growths and structures, extending from the body.
